The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the TeLEOS-2 Earth Observation Satellite for Singapore. The launch will be carried out by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which is one of the workhorse launch vehicles of ISRO. TeLEOS-2 is an Earth Observation Satellite and is the second Singapore commercial Earth Observation Satellite launched by ISRO.

More About TeLEOS-2

TeLEOS-2 is a Singaporean Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Earth Observation satellite built by ST Electronics (Satellite Systems). The satellite is built on a bus based on the TeLEOS-1 optical earth observation satellite and will operate in conjunction with this satellite. TeLEOS-2 carries a made-in-Singapore Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload capable of providing 1-meter resolution data. It will be equipped with a 500 Giga Bytes onboard recorder for recording the data captured and a high-speed 800 Mbps downlink.

Earth Observation Satellites and their Applications

An Earth observation satellite is a satellite designed for Earth observation (EO) from orbit. EO satellites can be used for a variety of applications such as weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, and mapping. These satellites provide valuable information about the Earth, such as weather patterns, changes in vegetation, and ocean currents. This information is used by scientists, government agencies, and businesses to make informed decisions.

Geostationary Orbit

A geostationary orbit is an orbit that allows a satellite to hover over a constant spot on the earth. The orbital period at this altitude is 24 hours, which allows uninterrupted coverage of more than 1/3 of the Earth per satellite. Three satellites, spaced 120° apart, can cover the whole Earth except the extreme polar regions. This type of orbit is mainly used for meteorological satellites.
